Summer camp wedding at Camp Wayfarer in Flat Rock, North Carolina
Let us tell you about a huge adventure we had in May 2014: Susannah and Jacob contacted us, a Portugal based wedding photographer couple, to go to the USA to shoot their wedding. They told us it would be a different wedding, that would have a lot of small details and that they just wanted to get the family together and celebrate their love. We’re always looking for new challenges and adventures so we accepted to go there and shoot their wedding (and we are super happy we did!).
Being big fans of summer camps themselves as kids, they decided that Camp Wayfarer in Flat Rock, NC, would be the perfect setting for their wedding. So they planned a weekend with their loved ones and wanted everyone to participate in some way. Doing a website for the wedding was a great idea (with all the information the guests needed) so everyone could get into summer camp mode even before they started packing bags. It was going to be a 3 day event: Friday and Saturday were days to connect, get together and get some of the things ready for Sunday. On Friday morning we went flower picking with them and the plan was to get wild flowers so that on Sunday morning some of the guests could make the flower arrangements themselves and participate in the process. Susannah and Jacob also created teams and planned activities for people to interact and bond (and Jacob designed lovely pins that worked as merit badges for everyone who entered or won the challenges). These activities included archery, riflery, a giant blob in the lake and the funnest cardboard boat building (and racing!). On Sunday morning we started with field games and later everyone was divided into groups to have dance lessons, flower arranging or taking care of decorations in the the gym for the dance. Everyone chipped in with something!
It was an unforgettable adventure we cannot wait to do again. We keep dreaming about those places, the experience, the people (how everyone took care of us, as if we were family) and the simplicity of a heart felt and emotional wedding.
It’s a long blog post so grab a blanket, a warm cup of tea and enjoy!

Saturday night included a talent show and singing, dancing, cooking, playing an instrument, improvising theater or rap was all on the table, as long as everyone participated in some way. An evening to remember, filled with little wonderful moments and a special touch.

The surprise of the night was a song that Susannah asked Tiffany to write for Jacob. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room!
Pedro and Marina, wedding photographers based in Aveiro, Portugal who will travel the world. We’d love to be part of your dream!
Oh! Obrigada Maria João!
